The interview process for PhD programs is quite structured and competitive. First, they look at your CV and research proposal. If you make the cut, you'll get invited for an oral interview that's usually about 30 to 45 minutes. You'll probably have to present your research proposal and talk about your past research. They're checking your scientific maturity, how much you know methodologically, if your ideas are original, and if you fit with their research group. Often, the whole thing is in English. For research or postdoc jobs, it's usually a CV check, then a technical interview with the main investigator or a committee, and sometimes you'll give a seminar on your previous work. They focus on your publications, research background, technical abilities, and if you can work by yourself and with others. Basically, they want to see if you're academically ready, motivated, and a good fit for the program or group.

The interview process at Politecnico di Milano was well-structured and organized. During the selection, I got to present my academic portfolio and talk about my study objectives. The staff was also super helpful in answering my questions and giving me detailed info about the program. It was a good and professional experience that helped me really understand the opportunities the university offers.

It was a straightforward process, not complicated. First, I was contacted by phone, then I moved on to the selection phase, and finally had an in-person interview. The staff were helpful and polite, the questions were clear, and the instructions were straightforward from the beginning. We reached an agreement quickly, and they let me know the outcome soon after.

First, there was a written computer test where I had to create an editorial plan for a potential campaign for the Open Day. At the end of the test, which lasted about 1 hour and 30 minutes, I had to produce a PowerPoint presentation with a maximum of 10 slides. Those who passed the first test could then proceed to the oral interview, which included a technical questions part, an English translation of a professional text (around C1 level, I'd say), and an aptitude test with a psychologist.
