Quantitative Analyst
Got connected through a recruiter. First, I spoke with HR about my background and projects. Then, I had a chat with the Hiring Manager, who is a PM. They asked about my experience and research methods. Finally, a take-home coding test was given, involving analyzing a dataset to find good signals.
- Can you describe the projects you've been involved in?
- What is your approach to factor research?
- How do you approach controlling for overfitting?
Quantitative Researcher
There were 3 rounds in total. The first round was pretty easy and mostly focused on my resume. The second round was way more technical, covering coding, probability, and machine learning. Linear regression is a must, so definitely focus on that first.
- In a dice game where you roll twice, if you have the option to decide whether to take the second roll, what is the expected value?

The HR will email without addressing your name, using the email like a chat app. Some emails got lost in the cross-communication, so I had to send multiple emails to ask for interview details. The first round involved an interview with a portfolio manager from the US who shared information about the team. The second round consisted of a 3-hour timed project. I felt like they had already recruited someone and were just interviewing me to fill a quota (a Singapore requirement). The project was easy, but I wasn't called for the next round. After interviewing with other hedge funds, I realized Point72 employees lack politeness. Overall, it's better to apply through an employee referral than on your own.
