The interview process involved two calls with team members where they discussed projects and then conducted technical interviews, followed by a final round. There seemed to be some issues with external recruiters, so be careful not to get caught up in that. Compared to other companies, the team appears a bit out of touch with how standard their work is within the industry. While valuable, it's pretty common across the board. You're basically a Data Scientist, not an OpenAI researcher, so some self-awareness would be good. I've interviewed for similar roles at other funds, and they always ask why you're not going for a more quant/research-focused DS role, framing it as a fundamental analyst position that requires statistical knowledge rather than a quant role. Point 72 has a bit of a reputation for its interview process, but it seemed like things were getting better, otherwise, I wouldn't have taken the recruiter call. This situation feels like a major disappointment.

First, you'll do a HackerRank test for an hour to check your basic Python and SQL skills. If you pass, there are 2-3 technical phone screens with Data Scientists, each lasting 30 minutes. Then, you'll get a case study assignment that takes about 6-12 hours of your own time. After that, there's an onsite interview. You have to pass each step to move to the next. I got to the phone screen stage but decided not to continue because it seemed like too much work.
