Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pocket Gems.
Game Designer
I had a really good chat with the recruiter, and the whole interview thing was pretty fun overall. Even though I didn't get the job, the recruiter was super nice about letting me know.
- Design a game collaboratively with the interviewers.
- Demonstrate your fundamental programming abilities using Unity.
Game Designer
This was one of the most demanding interviews I've ever gone through. It was a lengthy process that spanned several weeks and covered all aspects of my game design expertise. Many different team members were involved in the interviews, and there was also a substantial practical skills assessment. It was a wild and potentially draining experience, but it truly ensured I was prepared for the role in every way. It also highlighted my weaker areas, so if I were hired, they could pair me with a mentor to help me grow as a designer and improve the onboarding for everyone.
- Could you design a boss for a given game and describe its place within the overall game?
Game Designer
I finished a writing task and went through 3 interviews. The first two focused on game design and software knowledge, and the last one was about my career goals and personality. The interviewers were nice and friendly.
- Could you describe a new hero you designed for a game that already exists?
