Software Engineer
So first, I had a phone screen that was all behavioral. It was super easy, and the interviewer was nice. Then, they said the next round would be a technical interview with an engineer. But, that engineer asked all the same behavioral questions I'd already been asked, which was kinda annoying. Some technical questions were thrown in, and they were easy too. I didn't make it to the next round.
- Can you explain the difference between the stack and the heap?
Software Engineer
The process involved several interviews and concluded with a coding project. The coding project felt like a waste of time because there were no instructions and any questions asked were ignored. It's not reasonable to expect an entry-level person to work without guidance. People should get chances to learn and grow.
- Could you program a problem in C++?
Software Engineer
I applied online and got a call back within a week. The first interview was with the recruiter, covering typical questions like strengths, weaknesses, and why I want to work there. The second interview was a longer conference call with the dev team, with similar but more technical questions. After that, I got a programming assignment to create a program that evaluates simple math expressions (add, subtract, multiply, divide, parenthesis), with division being optional. I submitted it and waited a week. After checking in, they said it got blocked and was submitted for review. Another week later, they told me my skills weren't suitable. I asked about other positions to work my way up, and they suggested applying for a testing technician role, which I did. I had the first interview again, but then communication stopped. Recently, another Junior Software Engineer position opened, I applied, and was rejected two days later.
- For the home programming assignment, please write a program that can parse and evaluate arithmetic expressions. You must support at least addition and multiplication. The implementation should be object-oriented. Please do not use the "shunting yard" algorithm.
Software Engineer
It was an entry level software engineer role. First up was a phone interview with some basic questions like where I see myself in 5 years, strengths/weaknesses, and salary expectations. Nothing too technical. Then the second interview was a whiteboard programming session. The last question there was to design an expression tree using design patterns.
- How would you design an expression tree utilizing design patterns?
