I had a phone screen with the HR manager, who mostly talked about the company. Then, a 90-minute first interview with two development leads, which included about 45 minutes of whiteboard coding covering SQL basics like creating tables, joins, and aggregates. Three days later, HR contacted me for a second interview involving a written, open-ended technical test. I prepared for various technologies, but it turned out to be five straightforward SQL problems solved on a laptop. After that was reviewed, I had a nearly two-hour conversation with the VP of software and got a verbal offer right away.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • How would you approach SQL performance tuning?
  • Describe how to implement a self-referential join.
  • What are the implications of improper indexing on query performance?

Behavioral Technical Coding Other

The whole process had 3 interviews. First, a phone interview with HR. It was a basic chat to get to know you and see if you'd fit in at Plex. The second interview was the main part. Two senior people at Plex asked me questions about my resume and experience. Then came the super stressful 'White Board Test', which was to check my programming and logic skills. There were also some SQL questions. The last interview was for the offer, which was more of a meeting than an actual interview.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • I didn't expect the second interview to involve standing in front of the interviewers and answering programming and SQL questions on a whiteboard.
