Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at PlayStation.
Intern
This interview was 3 hours total, split over two days (1:45 on the first day, 1:15 on the second). Around 7 interviewers from the dialogue department were involved. The first interview focused more on cultural fit, while the second was more tech-oriented. I heard back about 3-4 weeks later. Some interviewers were friendly, others were more passive.
- What motivates your interest in working at Playstation?
- Could you share your favorite games and explain what you enjoy about them?
- Is there a specific moment in a game that inspired you to pursue game audio?
Intern
I interviewed for a Growth Strategy intern position. The whole interview process was great! There was only one interview, which had a 1-on-1 with the hiring manager, then a case interview in front of a few people (about Playstation's business), and finally another 1-on-1 with someone else from the team. It was really thoughtful that they matched me with someone from my school! The interviewers gave tons of info about the role, Playstation's business, and vision. It really felt like a panel session at times. The Career Talent team was super responsive, and communication was smooth and efficient all the way through.
- What is your motivation for wanting to work at Playstation?
- Can you tell me about one of your experiences mentioned on your resume?
- Could you outline a comprehensive Go-To-Market strategy, including pricing, distribution, and promotion, for a Playstation product?
Intern
I had a phone interview with the ML research team after my first interview with the manager. It was a conference call with a couple of people. The interview was going well with detailed machine learning questions about my work. Then another person joined and started asking unrelated questions about my previous Electrical Engineering degree, like how to control a DC motor's speed, and physics concepts like simulating the center of mass motion. I was frustrated and asked if these questions were relevant. The team then explained they work on hardware and wondered if I was interested in that direction. I said no. They then asked basic math questions like dot product and ODEs.
- How can you control the speed of a dc motor?
- What is an Ordinary Differential Equation?
- What is a dot product?
