So first there was a code test that I did online. Then I met with the head of engineering. After that, there was a system design interview, and then a manager interview. The teams were still being formed when I was going through this, and I'd be taking over services that other teams used.

The interview process had 4 rounds: a screener, a technical interview, a culture fit interview, and an executive interview. Everyone was really nice and welcoming throughout. There wasn't a lot of pressure, and the employees were supportive during each stage. I had portfolio reviews, whiteboard exercises, and resume walkthroughs with the design team and executives.

I started interviewing for Pixelberry in late March for two Associate Producer roles. The process moved pretty fast, and I ended up having 7 interviews in total for both positions. I think I met pretty much everyone on the team. After waiting two and a half weeks and getting no response to my follow-ups, HR finally emailed to say they'd filled both roles. The lack of communication from HR after so many interviews was a bit frustrating. I didn't get any feedback, and my emails were ignored. The interviews themselves felt quite relaxed and straightforward, which made me think I had a good shot at one of the jobs, so it was disappointing to find out they hired someone else.

The recruiters initially reached out about a Senior role, but after speaking with the hiring manager, I was unexpectedly considered for a Director position. I have a background with specialized knowledge relevant to the company's industry, which I assumed was why they considered me for this higher level. I was very committed to the process and eager for the chance to join at a significant leadership level. In total, the interviews lasted about 8 hours, and I met approximately a dozen people, including C-suite executives. They knew I was employed and that it required considerable effort to arrange interviews without jeopardizing my current job. The interviews varied in intensity; some interviewers were well-prepared, while others were unfocused and seemed disengaged. The least productive interviews were with senior leadership, where I had to take the lead and essentially interview myself. Despite this, the recruiter consistently provided positive feedback, indicating excitement for my progression. Midway through, after about 4 hours of interviews, I received an invitation for a brief 15-minute follow-up with the hiring manager. This was to inform me that a mistake had been made and I wasn't meant to be interviewed for the Director role. They admitted they didn't halt the process earlier due to PTO and likely didn't expect me to advance this far. They then revealed someone else was already selected for the role after meeting with key leadership, explaining the reduced engagement during my interviews. I was then pressed to admit my experience didn't match the other candidate, to which I responded that my resume was already provided and the Director job description didn't specify years of Director experience as a requirement. They tried to get me to accept an apology, but I didn't, as the situation was unfair. Surprisingly, they still wanted to offer me a Senior role, given the positive feedback from interviewers. Still processing the situation, I requested a written offer to review details. Three days later, the recruiter sent a one-sentence reply stating my salary expectations were outside their range, which seemed like a quick excuse given our initial salary discussions for the Senior role. I invested significant preparation and effort and felt exploited, suspecting the interview loop was a formality to comply with hiring regulations. I expected at least a courtesy call, but given the company's apparent lack of reputability, I'm sharing my experience so others can be cautious.
