Account Manager
I got a calendar invite for the interview. The interviewer wasn't super nice and asked stuff that wasn't really about the Account Manager job. The interview was mostly about the company. They also asked some personal questions that made me feel awkward.
- Can you legally work in the US?
Data Scientist
I applied online and after about 4 days, I got an email to schedule a phone screen. The phone screen involved discussing my projects and some technical details about them. It was a good experience, the interviewer was nice and communicated well. The next week, I had an onsite interview that lasted around 3 hours and was split into 4 parts: a data challenge, a meeting with the VP of Engineering, a technical interview, and a meeting with the Chief Product Officer. Everyone was professional and made me feel welcome. The questions were a mix of behavioral and technical, especially for the data challenge and technical interview. They seemed to focus on Bayesian methods, which was a learning experience for me. The overall interview process was positive. However, asking for references before an offer is made can be awkward. Also, I was under the impression it was for a senior data scientist role, but at the offer stage, they said they couldn't consider me for a senior position due to internal reasons, which led to a significant gap in compensation expectations.
- Brush up on your Bayesian methods, specifically Bayes type questions about updating likelihood.
Manager
I got a request for a phone interview and had to fill out my availability. No reply came until I followed up. They finally gave me a date a week later. I sent a re-confirmation email before our call, but they responded that someone else got the job. We had the call anyway, and the rep seemed uninterested. The call was short, maybe 10 minutes, and didn't cover much about my background or personality. I was rejected the next day. It felt like a waste of time.
- Tell me what you know about our company.
Account Executive
The interview process took 6 weeks, or 8 if you include the initial call with the external recruiter. It started with a phone screen by an external recruiter, then an HR phone interview. After that, there was a phone interview with the Hiring Manager (a Director). This was followed by 3 in-office interviews: first with the Hiring Manager again, then with two other people, one of whom was conducted over the phone, making it 3 interviews total, but done separately. Next, there were 2 more in-office interviews, the first with the hiring manager's boss (a VP), and then a phone interview with the CFO. The process concluded with a pitch meeting role play, which was kind of like an interview, with the Director and VP, and then an interview with a different VP. On the positive side, everyone I met was really friendly, welcoming, professional, and easy to talk to, and the questions weren't unfair. They were also pretty punctual. However, the communication and scheduling were impersonal and poor. I sent about 9 or 10 thank you notes to people other than HR, but only one person replied, and it was the most junior person. I sent three notes to the hiring manager, including one with a question, and never got a response. Scheduling was done through automated emails asking for my availability, and after I'd provide it, it would take days to hear back, and then I'd often get less than 24 hours notice for the next interview. It was a long process with very little feedback or status updates on where things stood. I guess I could have reached out to the HR person coordinating, but I wasn't directly told by the company if I got rejected or why, and I found out by asking the recruiter.
