First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pittsburgh Technical College.
Executive Director
After applying in 2020, I got a call in 2022. The process started with a screening call, then a Zoom call with a panel. I heard back within two weeks with an offer, and was hired within a month of interviewing.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Why do you believe you are the right fit for this role?
- Could you describe how you would handle specific situations?
Residence Life Coordinator
The interview process had two stages, and both were pretty relaxed. First, I met with the director and a current coordinator. Then, I met with the vice president and the director. In both meetings, they mainly asked about my past experiences and gave me a tour of the campus. I got feedback within a few days after each interview. I was offered the job eventually, but I turned it down. They mentioned that their HR department uses an algorithm to set salaries based on experience. Regardless of whether that's true, the offered salary is pretty much firm with no room for negotiation.
- Can you describe your experience dealing with drug and alcohol violations?
Admissions
The process started with a phone screen, followed by in-person interviews with various people, including a group session. Then there was a test and an email follow-up that included a background and reference check. They were very thorough in getting to know the leaders in each department. The atmosphere was friendly, and the interview felt reciprocal and respectful. The interviewers were also happy to answer my questions. It was a professional experience overall. They gave me a school handbook at the start with info on benefits and history. The HR Director was on top of things and answered my questions kindly and efficiently. I was impressed with how the interview was conducted; even though it was long, it showed they really care about who they hire and their selection methods.
- Can you relate your past experiences to this specific job role?
- How do you believe you can make a contribution to this position?
Faculty
So first I met with a bunch of people and the HR head. They basically herded us around the building like we were cattle and took down our info. It felt super weird and structured for an initial interview, honestly. Then I had a phone interview. After that, I met with the Dean and some directors and gave a teaching demo. Then they had me stick around for 3 hours to watch classes and hang out with the other faculty. Finally, they called me two weeks later and offered me the job.
- Can you describe a time you encountered opposition and how you managed to overcome it?
