Behavioral Case Presentation

It was a long and convoluted interview process. Despite my decades of verifiable experience in sales growth and hitting/exceeding targets in diverse areas, I don't have direct metal finishing experience, though I am familiar with it. I had individual virtual interviews with the HR Manager, the Hiring Manager, that person’s boss, the VP of HR, and the CEO. I was invited to the facilities for a tour and another interview with the GM. In the end, I didn't get the position, which feels like a massive waste of time and resources to fill a role where they wanted direct experience but weren't willing to pay for it. The hypothetical questions about what I would do 'if' were difficult to answer without understanding their quality process, returns, etc. Six interviews over two months seems excessive.

A recruiter from a placement agency called me about the job and did a phone interview. Then, I had an in-person interview with the Customer Service Manager that was about an hour long and very conversational. I thought it went well and they said they'd let me know, but I never heard back. My calls to the recruiter and the manager went unanswered. I finally reached the manager through the main line and she said they found more qualified candidates, even though I have 30 years of experience. They ignored me and didn't give a clear reason for not following up, so I suspect age discrimination.

I applied at the plant and then got a call to schedule an interview. The process included an interview, a drug test, and a background check. They asked basic questions about my past work, my attendance at prior jobs, and what I could contribute.

I had a phone interview for the Controller role. The HR manager really knew what this job needed. She paid close attention and asked good follow-up questions. She restated my answers more briefly than I did, and I think that's why they didn't offer me the job. It was the most professional and thorough phone interview I've ever had.
