Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pinterest.
Technical Recruiter
The interview process was super organized and structured. An internal recruiter from Pinterest reached out to me on LinkedIn, which was perfect timing since I was passively looking. The first stage was a 30-minute call with the Lead Recruiter who had contacted me. Right after that call, I got an invitation for an onsite interview. The onsite was honestly the best interview experience I've ever had! I was also in the running with Facebook and Google, and they ranked higher initially because they were full-time roles, while the Pinterest position was a contract. But after meeting the team, Pinterest became my top choice and my dream company now! The interview felt more like a conversation, getting to know me rather than a Q&A, and it really reflected the team culture, which I loved. I felt it went so well that I was sure I'd get the job, but unfortunately, they moved forward with another candidate. I really hope to get a chance to work with such a great team someday!

Recruiting Coordinator
The initial interview was a recruiter call to discuss my interest in the role and Pinterest. It seemed to go well, and the recruiter explained the rest of the interview process and the timeline for hearing back. Unfortunately, I didn't hear back within the specified timeframe, so I reached out. I didn't get a response and was eventually declined via an automated email about a week later. I was surprised not to advance and asked for feedback, but received no response. Given the role is focused on coordinating recruitment and managing candidate experience, I was really disappointed with the lack of communication and the overall process, especially from a company like Pinterest.

Recruiter
I had one phone interview, which was the only stage I got to before being rejected via a generic email. The issue was, I was referred for the role, and the recruiter reached out. They took about a week to confirm an interview time. The recruiter was five minutes late to our call. They joined the call very casually, seeming uninterested. This didn't start well. Then, they asked me to walk them through my background. I explained my current situation and why I'm looking for a new job. They kept asking about a role on my LinkedIn, which I clarified was a sourcing strategy developed by BIPOC individuals to assist recruiters and hiring managers. I explained this twice, and it's clearly stated in the job description. They didn't ask any situational or behavioral questions. Five minutes before the call ended, they mentioned needing to jump to another meeting and asked if I needed anything else. So, they were late to the call and then ended it five minutes early? I'm not sure about their recruiter training, but this isn't it. I was referred by a current employee, and referrals are usually treated with more care. It was a really bad experience, and I don't think I was given a real chance to show my skills.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- Could you explain the sourcing strategy?
