Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ping Identity.
Software Engineer
I recently went through the interview process at Ping Identity. The early stages and the take-home assignment went smoothly. However, after submitting the assignment, communication ceased. I received no feedback, not even a rejection, and my follow-up emails were ignored. This is frustrating because candidates invest significant time and effort, often working after hours, on these tasks. A simple notification would be greatly appreciated. I believe transparency and providing closure are essential in hiring, and I hope companies will prioritize these aspects.

Senior Software Engineer
First interview was with a principal engineer focusing on DSA (leetcode easy/medium), Java concepts, and basic LLD/HLD. I did well on DSA and LLD/HLD but struggled with Java questions as it's not my background. The second interview was also with a principal engineer, covering DSA (leetcode easy/medium) and HLD. I handled all questions, including follow-ups on the HLD design. Then, a Hiring Manager round with a Senior Director of Engineering, which was about my past experience. HR contacted me afterward, sharing positive feedback and requesting documents like payslips and my last offer letter. A week later, HR informed me my profile was moved to a US-based vertical, requiring new technical interviews. The first of these was a 30-minute discussion with a Senior EM from the US team, covering my experience and some technical questions, which went very well. The next was with a Staff Engineer who seemed unfamiliar with Time Complexity, asking two DSA questions. I solved them easily, passing all test cases. A few days later, HR said the US team rejected me due to perceived lack of GCP experience, which I never listed on my resume. She added that the India team was still considering my profile and would update me. It's been over a month, and HR has ghosted my calls, messages, and emails. It's unclear what the engineering team wants or if they even read resumes, especially that Staff Engineer. I consider myself lucky to avoid working with such a person.

Software Engineer
First, I submitted my application. Then, I got an email about two assessments, one for personality and another for IQ, which was timed. After that, I received a personal email from Amanda about a phone interview, which was nice. I talked to Amanda and set up a meeting with the 'Product Owner'. The conversation with the Product Owner didn't go so well because they focused heavily on multi-threading, which I haven't done much of, and they seemed concerned about me having a part-time teaching job while working full-time. They also questioned my career change from Mathematics, even though I have a strong background and have successfully picked up Java and worked as a Java developer for three years. I also got and submitted a programming assignment about MULTITHREAD. Finally, I received a personalized rejection email from Amanda. The overall process was quick, painless, and efficient.
- Do you foresee any issues balancing a teaching role at a Community College with a full-time job?
- Do you intend to return to a career in Mathematics?
