Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at PIMCO.
Intern
The HR team will share interviewer backgrounds which is super helpful. Everyone there is really nice and the company vibe is great. The interviews are pretty standard and not too tough. Just be confident, they are looking for candidates who are good all-around, balancing great communication with strong technical abilities.
- case study questions
- probability and statistics questions
- data structure questions
Analyst Intern
I sent in my application online through my school's career website and honestly forgot about it until I got an email asking to set up a phone interview. The person I talked to was a 2nd year associate in the department I applied to, and they were super nice and knew their stuff. We had some connection issues though, so I had to ask them to repeat themselves a few times. They remembered exactly what I wrote in my cover letter, which was a bit of a problem because I had really stretched the truth about my interest in the field. The questions were pretty standard: leadership experience, what I know about the company, what I'd want to do as an intern, etc. They started by giving a general overview of the interview, which made me think they get a lot of applications from college students just exploring their options. After the personal questions, they asked me some really basic industry questions, like defining duration, choosing bonds for different situations, current FED policy, and which bonds I found interesting. I totally messed up this part and would be shocked if I get a callback for a second round. Overall, the interview was enjoyable, and anyone should do well as long as they brush up on fundamental industry facts and terms.
- Can you explain what bond duration is?
- What bond would you pick in specific scenarios?
- Could you describe the current Federal Reserve policy?
Technology Intern
The recruitment process was super long, like 6 months from the initial application. I did one HackerRank and a HireVue, which was supposed to be behavioral but ended up having technical questions, and there was no repeat option. The final interview round was one behavioral and technical back to back. The two interviewers for behavioral were super nice and answered my questions in detail. For the technical, they asked me to debug code, which was unexpected, and the platform was really confusing.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered unclear requirements and how you handled it?
