It's pretty simple to get hired here. Just head into the store during February or October and ask to speak with a manager. Introduce yourself, express your interest and motivation, and try to sound smart. After you submit your application, give it directly to the manager. Make sure to keep coming back! The managers really want to see you're determined to get the job because they get a lot of applicants. If you get an interview, dress neatly but skip the suit. Be prepared to answer questions about your criminal, medical, and work background. Then, you'll need to take a drug test at a certified medical place. If all goes well, you'll have an orientation the following week. It's a 4-hour paid session covering company history, sales, plant care, safety, and how to satisfy customers. A few weeks after applying, you'll start working at Pike Nurseries. Loaders and cashiers are currently making $7.50 an hour because of the economy, which is down from $8.00 last year.

The interview process was fair and focused on my previous experience. Having a sales background and a solid knowledge base of what you are selling helps tremendously. You must agree to work six days a week during peak sales months (April - June). Also, if you have any professional horticulture or landscaping certifications that will bump you ahead of many other candidates.

I talked with the store manager who gave me an application to fill out. I returned it later that day and she basically hired me right then. But then, no one ever called me to set up a schedule. When I followed up, she wasn't working there anymore. I didn't bother following up further because I didn't think they communicated well. So, I did get an offer, but then everything went south after that.

Applied online, then had a phone interview where I was asked about my previous job history and knowledge about horticulture and KPIs. This was supposed to be followed by coming into the store and meeting higher-ups.
