Behavioral Technical Presentation

Reached out to the recruiter on LinkedIn about future jobs. Recruiter told me when jobs were posted externally so I watched their board. Found a job I liked and contacted the recruiter again. Then it was a standard process: recruiter phone screen, then a phone interview with the hiring manager since I lived out of state. A few weeks later, I flew in for an in-person interview. I met the hiring manager, Finance director, and VP of Finance, and had lunch with the hiring manager and director. It was pretty informal. They were flexible with scheduling the in-person interview so I could surprise my wife on her birthday.

Behavioral Group

First, I had a phone screening, and then an in-person interview. The interview was a group panel with basic behavioral questions, no technical ones. They told me I did great on the questions. At the end, the main interviewer nitpicked my resume, even though they knew I didn't have much experience when I applied, but I was still qualified. I knew I wouldn't get called back after that. It seemed like I was only brought in to meet their interview quota. Plus, being a woman of color, I felt like that played a part in not getting a follow-up, like I didn't have a chance from the start.

Behavioral Technical

I was invited for an on-campus interview that involved behavioral questions and felt pretty low-pressure. Then, I was invited back for a second interview, but they only called me one day before I was supposed to be at their office in a city 3 hours away, which I thought was a bit unprofessional. Some other candidates I talked to had the same thing happen. When I got to the office, I waited in a room for 30 minutes before a quick tour and an interview. I only had one interview, and it was with the same person from campus. They asked a few more technical questions, but it was pretty informal overall. The company seemed good and the people were nice, but the office interview process could have been more thorough.

Behavioral Other

The initial conversation was a positive phone call. The second interview, however, was strange. I met with the same person from the phone call along with two managers. Two of the managers seemed very uninterested, which made me feel awkward. What's really puzzling is that during this in-person meeting, the person I initially spoke with brought up concerns about my background, even though we had already discussed my skills and my previous industry at length. It makes me wonder if they just brought me in to meet some sort of quota. I felt this was unfair. It was really out of line to voice concerns in person, especially after I took time off work to be there. It made me uncomfortable. If there were issues, why was I invited for a second interview?
