First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Piano.
Customer Success Manager
I interviewed with the Recruiter, a Teammate, and the Hiring Manager, but I didn't make it to the final round with the VP. All interviews were over Zoom and 1-on-1. They were very transparent about the process, but they were unclear about the in-office requirement. They said they prefer people to be in the office and offer a day off if you work in office 4 days a week, but didn't specify the minimum days required.
- The hiring manager asked about my hobbies and what I like to do outside of work.
Recruiter
The HR team was really professional, fair, open-minded, and kind. The interview process was well structured and had 3 rounds with people of varying seniority. Each round had relevant questions about my experience, career goals, and how I'd handle different situations. I didn't get an offer in the end, but I made it to the final stage and kept a good relationship with everyone.

Project Manager
I went through a 3 interview process, talking to HR, the hiring manager and the director of the department. The recruiter was upfront about the process. The interviews were not too hard, but they seemed genuinely interested in me and what I could bring to the role and company. Even though the interviews went well and each interviewer assured me I would move forward when I asked, things took a bad turn. I saw this warning on Glassdoor before but didn't think it would happen to me. After putting in time and effort, I was ghosted, even after sending a few follow-up emails. This was not the transparent and respectful communication they promised at the start. In a tough job market, giving feedback or at least letting candidates know their application status is important for their professional growth and for ending the recruitment process respectfully.
- What are your key life values for your next job?
- What's the lowest salary you'd accept?
Human Resources Generalist
Had an initial 30-min Zoom call with the Director of People Engagement and Comm. who is based in France. They seemed a bit stern and we talked about my HR skill-set. Then, about a week later, I had a 90+ minute Zoom interview with the Global Director, People and Org. This interview was more friendly and conversational, focusing on cultural fit. The role specifically emphasizes Global EORs and US Payroll, plus general HR Ops, and isn't focused on complex employee relations or strategic initiatives.
