First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Physicians Mutual Insurance.
Data Architect
First, getting the interview scheduled was a real headache because the Insight Global recruiters weren't on the same page as the Physicians Mutual Insurance managers and directors regarding availability. My Insight Global recruiter told me on four separate occasions that the manager was 'not picking up his phone'. Then, the interview felt more like a vibe check and an age assessment than anything related to the job itself. For my role, it involved creating a PowerPoint presentation to discuss one of five IT topics in my data architecture specialty in depth, which was pretty straightforward. However, I wasn't too impressed when the manager kept coming and going during the hour-long slot; he was only present for about 15 minutes while I presented and fielded questions from the Physicians team. Lastly, getting timely or accurate feedback was a no-go. Insight Global didn't really try to follow up with the Physicians Mutual Insurance IT team after my presentation. After I asked about it three or four times, they went silent, and I didn't get any feedback until three months later when HR told me they decided not to move forward.
- Could you put together a presentation covering one of the five key data architecture subjects pertinent to the modernization of Physicians Mutual Insurance's EDW and their REST APIs?
Senior Software Engineer
I was shortlisted for a Senior Software Engineer role and HR called to set up an onsite interview. Then, about half an hour before it was scheduled, I got an email saying they'd gone with someone else. It would have been nice to have a bit more notice, especially since I had to reschedule things like a doctor's appointment. This happened before for a Program Manager position too, where after talking with HR a few times, I was told the job was filled. I really think it's important to be professional and considerate when scheduling. Getting told so close to the interview time was really tough. I suggest the company look into their ethics training because this kind of thing really shapes how people see potential employers. Honestly, going through this saved me from possibly joining a bad work environment. I hope this feedback helps improve your hiring process.
- Could you introduce yourself?
Test Engineer
Right after getting laid off from First Data on a Monday, my recruiter managed to set up a conference call interview for Wednesday. It was a group interview with about 4-5 Physician Associates for a contract-to-hire test engineer role on their Salesforce project. The interview was pretty short, only 30-45 minutes, and sometimes the questions were a bit hard to catch. By Friday, I got an offer, which was my last day at First Data. I started about a week and a half later after finishing the paperwork and passing a drug test.
- Can you describe the process you follow when you discover a software defect during testing?
- What's your experience working with Agile methodology?
- Tell me about your experience with Rally.
Junior Copywriter
The interview process involved a 30-minute phone screen, followed by a 1.5-hour Webex with multiple people, and then a lengthy 3.5-hour in-person interview with several people. After the final in-person interview, I waited over two weeks (12 business days) for any update. I only found out the decision and got feedback after I reached out for clarification. When I mentioned this was unusual, they gave a minimal explanation and said it was their norm. So, don't expect good communication or treatment after the interview.
- Can you tell me about how you manage competing deadlines?
- Describe your process for receiving and implementing feedback.
