Inventory Stockroom
It was a straightforward in-person interview. There was a written test covering similarities and differences in word and phrase spelling. They really scrutinized my work history and skills. I'm confident I have the necessary qualifications. During the second interaction, I met someone who was supposed to be another manager, but they were busy with a task. Somehow, they decided my skills were below average, and I'm still curious about their reasoning. I'd seriously suggest the hiring manager get an ethics review because they clearly missed exceptional talent right in front of them. It seems they screen people out of job opportunities without even meeting them. I guess things have changed a lot since my last job interview. I thought a job interview meant meeting the candidate, assessing their qualifications and ability to do the job, and then offering them the position. I had no idea it would be a competition among applicants.
- Could you explain your reasons for leaving your previous employers?
- What was your salary in your last position?
- Can you tell me why you didn't decide to work with your former employers' clients or customers?
Laser Engineer
The interview process was pretty straightforward. I had some hands-on tests on an optical bench, followed by a short written test. Everyone was really pleasant. They explained the position, but the job duties weren't clearly defined, more of a floating role, which felt a bit off. They did offer me the job, but then I found out about a non-compete clause that wasn't mentioned initially. The non-compete is quite restrictive, covering worldwide employment for two years post-employment, and it was only in the offer letter. They wouldn't let me see the full non-compete documents before I accepted.
- What motivates your interest in working with lasers?
Laser Engineer
The interview process was pretty standard, including a practical part, a spoken part, and a written part. I was asked to prepare slides about my previous work, but the interviewers didn't seem very interested in them.
- Can you explain ray tracing through a lens?
- What is refractive optics and the index of refraction?
- Do you know Bragg's law?
Software Engineer
So basically I had two phone interviews, and then an onsite interview. The first phone call was more of a behavioral type of interview. The second phone interview involved three technical questions. And the onsite interview was quite extensive, like a 14-page test covering both hardware and software aspects.
- What's the difference between a subroutine and a function? Could you draw a flowchart for it?
