Quantitative Analyst
Got an initial coding assessment in R, had a few days to finish and send back. Then had a 1st interview with two team members, followed by a 2nd interview with two more team members. The final interview was with the director.
- Tell me about how you preprocessed and cleaned the data for the predictive modeling task.
- What was your reasoning for choosing particular methods for the predictive modeling task?
Quantitative Analyst
I filled out the initial application and included a recommendation. Then, I was given a dataset and asked to predict OBP using previous seasons' OBP and PA (it wasn't clear if this was even feasible with the provided data). I also had to design an analysis for a hypothetical question. Following that, I had a behavioral interview with two quantitative analysts where they asked general questions and touched on the questionnaire, but nothing too deep. They mentioned a second interview, but a few days later I was informed I wouldn't be moving forward. It was pretty frustrating since I spent a good amount of time on the technical part and thought it was strong enough for a callback.
- Can you explain your methodology for addressing the OBP prediction question?
Quantitative Analyst
It was a 2-stage non-human interview process. First, there was a 10-question assessment. Then, an open-ended, baseball-themed data science case study. This was followed by at least 2 rounds of human interviews, which included both baseball and data science questions.
- Regarding baseball, what's your main theory and how would you go about proving it if you had access to all possible data?
- Which baseball analyst do you find most impressive?
