Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Phenom.
Product Marketing Manager
It looked like a three or four step process: first, a 60-minute recruiter screening interview over video. Then, a 60-minute hiring manager interview over video. After that, a panel interview that included a pitch and a Q&A session. Lastly, an interview with a cross-functional team member who is not part of the daily working team. The interviewer seemed unprepared and annoyed, making comments about long hours and high turnover, which were definite red flags.
- How do you manage a heavy workload and extended hours?
- What's your approach to distinguishing us from competitors?
- Do you have experience with presentations and creating product demonstrations?
Product Marketing Manager
The interview process moved quickly, wrapping up within a week. It began with a phone chat with the recruiter, Emily, and then progressed to three online interviews. These were with the Hiring Manager, two people from the team, and the Head of Marketing. I really liked all the interviews; they felt like conversations and they seemed genuinely interested in getting to know me, not just my work skills but also me as a person. The marketing team struck me as sharp and energetic, and I enjoyed meeting them. Emily was great and made the whole thing feel smooth and like a really good experience.
- Could you share your motivations for wanting to join our company and what's prompting your departure from your present role?
- What product marketing tools are you familiar with?
- What aspects of product marketing do you find most fulfilling?
Product Marketing Manager
I had a first video interview with HR for the Product Marketing Manager job. There was some confusion at the start because the recruiter wasn't sure which PMM role I'd applied for. It was a quick interview, mainly about my background. The interviewer was nice but seemed unprepared, making the conversation rushed, disorganized, and not very in-depth. He said he'd follow up the next day, but I never heard back. When I asked, he mentioned Phenom uses their own product for hiring. No follow-up was provided, which was odd considering the company's talk about using AI to 'streamline the hiring process' and 'deliver personalized candidate experiences.' Overall, the process was simple but not as polished as I expected, with not much deep or role-specific talk. From what I saw, expect a short intro chat focused on general background, not detailed marketing or product stuff.
