Client Services Coordinator
Overall, a positive experience. The person who interviewed with me was pretty thorough with the expected job duties and what my day-to-day would look like. However, it was a contract position, and it was not fully clear as to how long it would last.
- How do you prioritize when faced with a large workload?
Software Engineer
It kicked off with a recruiter Google Meet chat which was nice and engaging. I felt ready and keen for more after that. They were upfront about the salary range and job duties, which was cool. Then, I had the hiring manager interview, also on Google Meet. Maybe I read it wrong, but the interviewer sounded a bit sarcastic or cynical at times. They seemed to be just going through the motions, kind of robotic, so I'm not totally sure. I thanked them, but later realized there wasn't a clear plan for the team's future, which is concerning. This, along with the potential manager's vibe, made me decide not to move forward. The next stages would have been at least two more interviews, one technical and one with a C-suite exec. I was told I'd get feedback, but since I backed out, that seems off the table. It's a small thing, but how you treat people you don't have to matters.
- What are your expectations in terms of team collaboration and problem-solving approaches?
- Could you elaborate on the work/life balance, particularly given it's a startup?
- What are the current processes and methodologies used by the team?
Quality Manager
I spoke with 4 people at Pex for this job and did a technical test. Most of the interviewers were great people, really nice, spoke well and gave good info. But one interviewer was pretty rude, he kept closing his eyes like he couldn't stand me and gesturing at me when he brought up needing to hire for diversity. I don't really know what he was getting at, and I don't want to think about why he acted like that. But it was awkward and threw me off for the rest of the interview and the one right after. It was my fault though, and I learned something for future interviews. There's always going to be tough people at work, but I wish I had met him earlier in the process. Anyway, like I said, most people were great, and I think it's probably a great place to work.
- Can you share your experience?
- Describe your management style.
- How would you go about staffing the department?
Product Manager
First, I had a good initial call with the recruiter where they asked me to go over my resume and talk more about my product experience. Then, the next step was a 30-minute call with the VP of product. The recruiter had mentioned this would be a chance for them to get more details about my product background and figure out which PM role would be the best fit. I'd actually asked the recruiter for any prep tips beforehand, but didn't hear back. The interview with the VP of product wasn't what I expected. They didn't ask specific questions about my product experience; it felt more like they were assessing culture fit, which was different from what the recruiter told me. For example, one question was about my hobbies. After that, I followed up with the recruiter twice but still haven't heard back. I felt ghosted, which was really disappointing.
- Can you tell me about your background?
- Walk me through your resume.
- Can you dive deeper into your product background?
