First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Petuum.
Software Engineer
Worst experience ever. Passed the coding challenge and phone interview. The recruiter requested an onsite interview. I sent my schedule over. 3 weeks after, I was told they would not move forward with me. The recruiter never replied my emails. I had other interviews in the same period, and it was really hard for me to manage my schedule since they NEVER replied my email. I guess they prefer local candidates. If they find local fits, they would cancel your interview. To me, the company seems to be too cheap. I know pay is low. I like what Dr. Xing does, and this is the only reason I applied for Petuum. However, very disappointed. Will never consider the company. Eric is a good researcher, but definitely not a good CEO.
- Questions about algorithms and data structures
Computer Vision Engineer
I got an email from the recruiter saying I was shortlisted for the first interview round and they asked for my availability. The interviewer didn't call at the scheduled time. He rescheduled, and it finally happened after two weeks. But the interviewer wasn't interested at all. He even muted himself for a while. It was a pretty bad interview experience!
- A medium LeetCode problem was asked, and also a question about Machine Learning.
ML Tester
I applied for the test engineer role and was referred by my friend, so I didn't have to do an OA. The process took about 4 weeks in total, with one tech interview, then an hr query, and then another tech interview. Scheduling the interviews took some time.
- Reverse a linked list and discuss follow-up questions.
- Basic ML concepts.
- Discuss your relevant experience.
Software Engineer Computer Vision
I applied online and heard back from a recruiter via email about a month later. The first round was a 45-minute interview with 2 simple coding questions. Unfortunately, I didn't make it through, even though the interviewer said my answers were correct and gave me feedback.
- How would you approach sorting?
- Can you explain a basic CNN concept?
