First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at PetPeople.
Buyer
The interview process was pretty thorough, focusing on both store and online experience. They also asked about my previous work history, specifically the most satisfying and most challenging periods in my last role.
- What's your take on the in-store shopping experience?
Assistant Manager
It's a multi-stage process. First, there's a phone screen. Then, you go in person for an interview with two people. Finally, there's a home office interview, which might be remote depending on the specific role. The whole thing is pretty lengthy and can take about 2-3 weeks to complete.
- Tell me about your knowledge of pet nutrition.
Sales Associate
I applied online for a position at store A. A week later, I had a quick 20-minute phone interview. A few days after that, I went in for an in-person interview that was split into two parts, first with the assistant manager and then with the manager. This whole in-person part took a very long time, at least an hour and a half, even though it was just for a part-time role. Unfortunately, I didn't get the job at store A. Then, about a week later, store B contacted me. They asked if I was interested in working at their location and invited me to come see their store and meet the team. After that visit, I let them know I was definitely interested. Another week went by, and finally, I was offered a job at store B.
- Can you share an instance where you bent company rules to successfully complete a task?
Associate
First, I had a quick phone chat, then they had me come in for an in-person interview. It was with the store manager and lasted about half an hour. She asked me some typical interview questions about my previous experience and when I'm available. It felt pretty chill, like a "get to know you" thing. I wasn't stressed or anything. The manager was really open about how much I'd make and what the job entails.
- Can you tell me about your previous retail work?
