It started with a phone screening where they asked about my experience, my favorite book, and my salary expectations. Then, I had the main interview. I was told beforehand about a demo lesson. The interview itself was good, and everyone was nice and welcoming. The interview panel included the Principal, Assistant Principals, HR, and a teacher. A couple of people were a bit late. They asked some general questions, and then I did my 20-minute demo lesson. I got the offer the next morning.

I went to the CPS job fair and spoke with a recruiter, giving them my resume. Later, I got a call for an interview and a 20-minute demo lesson on any topic, which I would do with the department's instructional leader and a teacher. Then, I had a phone interview with the principal. This was to make sure I understood that the job was in an urban setting and that I had good classroom management skills. It's a good idea to check out their website and be familiar with their College for Certain and A Discipline Life models. Also, be ready to talk about current best practices like differentiation and backward planning.

It was a pretty standard process for an educational role. Started with a quick pre-screening phone call to go over my background and experience, then a 30-minute call with the principal to dig into my teaching philosophy and why I want this job. After that, I had to prepare and teach a sample lesson to some students, and then finished up with a Q&A session with a panel.

Candidates have to teach a class using a provided lesson plan, observed by assistant principals and the HR director. This was a math lesson to ensure candidates can cover STEM requirements. Following this, they took a test where they watched a video of a teacher and then had to role-play as an evaluator speaking to that teacher about how they would assess them.
