Customer Success Manager
I interviewed for a Customer Success Manager position at Permutive and it was a great experience. The team was super friendly and upfront, and they really tried to get to know me. The process had a few parts: first, a chat with a recruiter, then a few interviews with the hiring team, which included a presentation, and finally a conversation with the co-founder. Everything felt really well-organized and fair. I even got useful feedback which made me feel supported and ready. What was really cool was how enthusiastic the team was about their work and their goals. It made me even more excited to join. All in all, I felt like my candidacy was valued, and the whole thing left me with a really good impression.

Accountant
Got a call from the recruiter about a week after applying and things seemed to be going well. I had 3 good interviews with the accounting contractor, hiring manager, and CFO. I was told I might meet with a founder, which the recruiter made sound like a casual meet and greet. I wish I'd had some guidance on what to expect. While it started out like a casual chat, I was surprised by the feedback that I didn't talk enough about transaction volume and didn't ask the 'right' questions, even though I asked the founder over 5 thoughtful questions. It took another week to get this feedback, and I was ultimately not selected. They seem to still be looking, now for a manager role, 4 months later. Honestly, after hearing about recent layoffs, I feel it might be a good thing.
- Could you share some general details about your previous work experience?
- Can you tell me about the volume of transactions you've handled in prior roles?
- What questions do you have for the founder?
Customer Success Associate
I applied through LinkedIn for their NY office, and loved that it's remote-first but you can go into the office if you want. The process was really intense but totally worth it. First, there was a phone screen with someone from Talent. Then, I interviewed with the hiring manager for the department. After that, it was a technical interview with a panel where I had to walk them through a presentation about a project I managed from start to finish. Finally, there was a behavioral interview focused on core values. It was a super positive experience all around. Everyone I talked to was really nice, genuine, and smart, and I could tell they actually cared about me as a candidate. The whole thing took about 4 weeks and involved different people from the company to make sure I'd be a good culture fit. I've been here for about 3 months now, and it's still great.
- Tell me why you're interested in this Customer Success Associate position.
- Can you share an instance where you dealt with a challenging client or relationship and explain your approach?
- Please prepare and present a project lifecycle management scenario, detailing the steps taken for successful completion.
Customer Success Manager
This was a super long process, over a month in total. First, a Head Hunter called, then an Internal Recruiter. After that, I interviewed with the person I'd report to, then someone from People Operations for culture. Then there was a big 3-person panel interview that included a mock strategic account review and an executive business review. I made it to the end, but didn't get an offer. They said it was for a 'mediocre reason' (not sharing the real one for privacy), even though I apparently impressed everyone with my presentation skills, industry knowledge, and cultural fit. The final stages were handled really unprofessionally. The panel interview was over 90 minutes and I had to take PTO for it. The Head Hunter and Recruiter said there would be separate times for presentation and Q&A, but one panelist kept interrupting with irrelevant questions instead of waiting. The final interview had one person who barely talked and left early, and another who seemed unsure of their role and didn't ask real questions. This last 'cultural' interview actually asked about my successes and failures. Honestly, the panel interview seemed to be the deciding factor, making the last interview feel like a waste of time.
- Can you tell me about a time you managed a challenging client or relationship?
- Tell me about a time you or your team failed to achieve a goal and what you learned from it.
- Describe how you would conduct a strategic account review.
