First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pensacola Christian College.
Associate Solution Developer
The interview process included questions related to the role. They don't ask hard questions, and most questions are pretty general and easy to answer. The most important thing is that you have to be a Christian.
- What's your preferred programming language?
- Do you identify as Christian?
Supervisor
The interviewer was aware of my work ethic but wanted to gauge my potential as a spiritual leader for student workers. The interview felt unique compared to my previous experiences, but it was good to see their genuine concern for me, the staff, and faculty.
- Can you explain your salvation experience, including when and how it happened?
- What kind of music and movies do you enjoy?
- Would you be comfortable attending church services on campus?
Graduate Assistant
Interviewed with the Vice President of Academic Affairs. It was pretty easy and, honestly, had very little bearing on whether you'd be accepted unless you graduated from somewhere else, as it's all based on your undergrad standing. A big thing that bugged me, but probably shouldn't have surprised me considering the school's overall environment, is that your answers are expected to parrot PCC's beliefs and were often misleadingly phrased.
- Can you describe your philosophy on music?
IT Department
The interview was solely with a staff person from Employee Services, and no one from my potential future department was there. I later found out that my future team leader didn't even see my resume or know about my skills and experience. Employee Services has a lot of power here and isn't very adaptable or focused on employee care; the main thing they want is compliance. Hiring at PCC seems more about filling a spot and strictly following the handbook than about your skills and how you'd contribute to the organization. Forget about career growth. They show a really good video about the company's history and founders. A big requirement is attending the on-campus Campus Church every week, and HR checks attendance slips, so your personal church choice is out. During the interview, it felt like I'd be giving up a lot of my dignity and freedom for a paycheck. They explained this is because it's a ministry, even though Christians should see all work as ministry. Also, every full-time hire, even for support roles, is on at least a one-year contract because they say leaving would mess up the school schedule. If you apply after the Fall semester starts, they add the rest of that year until July plus another full year. They can do this. There's no room for negotiation or flexibility in the interview, which is a good preview of the job environment. Also, while the company can fire you with two weeks' notice, employees must give six months' notice (in January) and can only leave in July (when contracts reset) without being seen as breaking the contract. Be warned about this before interviewing or accepting a job. I also suggest reading the whole Employee Handbook carefully first.
- Do you fully agree with everything in the Employee Handbook, including rules on dress, personal beliefs, and standards like music choices?
