Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at PENNYMAC.
Pricing Analyst
I had a 30 minute phone interview for the Pricing Analyst role. It was mostly broad questions, with some questions about my Excel and SQL experience. All the questions felt fair and not misleading, and I was comfortable answering them.
- How is your prior experience in the capital markets mortgage industry relevant to this role?
- Can you describe your experience with Excel?
- Can you describe your experience with SQL?
Analyst
I interviewed for an analyst position where I would do ad-hoc projects for the team. It involved 3 separate interviews with different team members. They asked about my experience and to tell them about specific examples. They also asked personality type questions and if I was interested in teamwork. They gave me an overview of the position. The interviewers were friendly.
- Can you describe your approach to managing time and meeting deadlines?
Senior Analyst
I went through two phone interviews, one with the manager and another with the SVP. After that, they invited me onsite for in-person interviews. The overall process was nice, although they could improve on communicating the exact position you're being offered. I applied for a senior analyst role, but when the offer came, they disclosed it was for an analyst position.
- What is the duration of a bond?
- Can you explain the Time Value of Money?
