HR Specialist
The job posting didn't mention a salary range. When I was contacted to schedule an interview, salary also wasn't brought up. We then set up a virtual meeting, and the recruiter was about 10 minutes late to join. The very first thing she asked was about my salary expectations, mentioning she usually asks this before scheduling interviews but must have forgotten in my case. When I stated my expectations, the salary range she mentioned was much lower than I anticipated, and that was the end of our conversation. She didn't even suggest looking at other roles that might be a better fit for my salary or experience level, even though there are other positions I'm qualified for listed by the company. This experience really put me off applying for any more jobs there. Almost a month later, I got an email rejecting me for the job I had already decided not to pursue. This isn't a good way to handle a job opening.

I applied and after 3 weeks got an email from the recruiter to set up an initial call. The recruiter skipped the small talk and got straight to asking me about my previous role and key achievements, plus why I was interested in this job. They scheduled a second interview 3 weeks later with the hiring manager (a Director) and an AVP. This interview involved a mix of behavioral and technical questions, including one about Banking Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP), which I hadn't done before. The interview lasted about 45-55 minutes. The recruiter said they'd let me know within 1-2 weeks. I followed up after another two weeks, and they replied immediately, stating they were still reviewing candidates and would keep me posted. I appreciated that they responded instead of ghosting me. I followed up a few more times over two months, and each time got the same reply: "No selection has been made yet, will keep you posted." The overall experience was okay, but I didn't like being kept in limbo. It's been 4 months since the interview and I haven't even received a rejection email.

The hiring journey was quick and straightforward. After submitting my online application, I was contacted by HR within days for an initial chat. This conversation was pretty chill, mostly covering my background, education, and why I wanted to join PSECU. The very next day, I got a call for a second interview with the hiring managers and HR. This one felt a bit intense with three interviewers, but it went smoothly. They asked job-specific questions, including some hypothetical scenarios and vocabulary checks. I was honest about words I didn't know, and they were understanding. I got the job offer the following week. After clearing a background check, I'm all set to start in a few weeks.

I had 2 interviews. First interview was back in May, the manager was ok but she couldn't understand why I wanted to switch from healthcare back to a call center environment and I was declined multiple positions like 8 rejection emails for positions I applied for, I was crushed. Then here in July I got a call on a Friday for another interview for the same position, interviewed on a Tuesday and got the job the next day. I'm very excited to start working for PSECU, they're a big family environment and fast paced. I'm glad the second interviewers saw something in me. My advice, if you really want to work here don't give up after the first rejection.
- Can you describe yourself in one word?
- What are your long-term aspirations with PSECU?
- Do you tend to accept statements or claims without question, and why or why not?
