First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Penguin Random House.
Marketing Manager
I went through three interview rounds plus a skills test. It was nice talking to the team, but the whole thing took three months. I made it to the final stage, but they ended up hiring someone else. The HR recruiter and the team suggested I apply for another job, which was nice, but I didn't hear back about that one.
- Do you have any suggestions for improving our social media presence?
Marketing Manager
I had a quick 15-20 minute chat with a recruiter about my experience and the job. Then, I had a longer conversation with the hiring manager and the VP of the team where they asked more detailed questions about my resume, my knowledge of the industry, and more.
- What qualities do you look for in a manager?
- Can you describe your preferred work environment?
- How do you keep up with trends in the marketing industry?
Digital Marketing Manager
I applied online and went through a phone interview, then two in-person interviews. The first call was with HR, the next with the hiring manager, and the last one with the VP, director, and some team members. It took about two months from applying in July to getting the final decision in September. The process was typical, but follow-up after the second interview could have been better given the time I put in.
