First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at PEMCO Insurance.
Product Analyst
After I sent in my resume and cover letter, PEMCO sent me some SQL homework a couple of weeks later. It had 5 questions, and I just had to write the commands without database access. They also asked how long the problems took me. About a week after they graded my SQL homework, I had a 30-minute phone screen (it actually lasted 24 minutes). They asked a few intro questions, and then went through every responsibility listed in the job description. I found out I didn't get an on-site interview the following week.
- Can you start by telling me about yourself?
- What makes you interested in PEMCO?
- What's your understanding of the insurance industry?
Marketing Communications
I sent in my application online after seeing the ad on LinkedIn. A few weeks later, a recruiter gave me a call for a phone screen. The following week, I headed to the Seattle HQ for interviews with the Hiring Manager and another team member. After that, I met with the Executive in charge of the department. The whole interview experience was really nice. I felt welcome and inspired by the team, and I knew during the process that it would be a great fit for me.
- Tell me about a time you handled conflict within a team.
- Can you share an example of when you had to manage difficult project limitations?
- What are your strengths regarding communication skills?
Software Engineer
Started with talking to someone from the business side who gave an intro to the company culture. Then I interviewed with two senior devs at the same time. After that, I went to where all the devs sit, in one big room. I sat at a table with a projector and had to do some simple SQL and Visual Studio tasks like writing a query or finding a bug, with 3-4 devs watching. It was pretty different. Finally, I met the dev manager who asked me soft skill questions like about my biggest weakness.
- What question should I have asked?
Call Director
I filled out an application online and then got a call back. I then had an interview with the hr manager and the Call director manager. They both asked me questions, starting with the usual interview questions, and then asked a few questions about why I wanted to work for pemco and how I take criticism. The HR rep went first while the other interviewer took notes, and then they switched roles.
- What does world class service mean to you?
