So, the hiring process for this job was pretty long. I applied way back in June, and I didn't even get a call for a phone interview until more than a month later. They seemed to want to speed things up after that, so they quickly had me do an online assessment that tested my personality traits and also an Excel test. I managed to pass those. Then, they asked me to come in for an in-person interview, which ended up being two hours long. They asked some really strange questions for the type of position I was interviewing for. Honestly, I left feeling kind of 'meh' about whether I'd actually get an offer. This is my second time interviewing at Pekin Insurance, and I don't think I'll be applying for a third position.

It began with a recruiter call, which was a typical HR screening. After that, I took a personality assessment and a general knowledge test. Then, I had in-person interviews with the department manager, director, and VP. These were more specific to the job and involved situational questions. I also got a tour of the building and department. After the offer was accepted, a drug screening and a thorough background check were conducted. There was a little bit of room to negotiate the starting salary, but not much.

First up was a quick phone screen with HR. Then, they set up a video call (on Teams) with the managers of the department I'd be joining. Before meeting the managers, there was an assessment to complete. I think it was a mix of behavioral stuff and some kind of IQ test. The behavioral part was a bit tricky, as some questions didn't have clear-cut answers. I tried to be honest, but some were definitely subjective. One question, 'I have never lost my temper,' really made me pause. I mean, I've never lost it at work, but as a kid, for sure. Still, I marked it as true since I figured it applied to a business/professional context.

A recruiter reached out, and she was super friendly and open. We did a phone screen, and then I had an interview set up for three weeks later. The interview itself went really well. But after that, I just got ghosted. Not only by the hiring managers, but the recruiter too. No replies to my calls, emails, or LinkedIn messages. It was total radio silence, not even a basic courtesy message.
