Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pegasystems.
Recruiter
A recruiter contacted me and did a quick initial interview. The next day, the hiring manager called me for a 30-minute phone screen. Then I had an on-site interview that was scheduled to last 3 hours. I met with 5 people, from coordinators to managers. They asked about my career goals, my background, and my knowledge of the job. Everyone was really friendly. A week later, I followed up via email and they said they are considering other candidates and will let me know. I'm still waiting to hear back.
- Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
- What is your experience in recruitment?
- Could you describe your strengths and weaknesses?
Recruiter
I had an initial recruiter call, followed by a phone screen and then 1:1 meetings with 3 different people. The team, including the group VP, were all pretty new, under a month on the job. They seemed really enthusiastic about the changes they're making, but I got the vibe that there are still a lot of hurdles to clear before the work culture gets better. This place has a history of high turnover, and I think they need more time to settle in. I'd give each of my interviewers an A, B, or C. There were quite a few interruptions and late starts, which made it feel like they were distracted and not super interested in my background after a while.
- What's your approach to excelling at your job above all others?
Executive Recruiter
I sent my resume to the VP of Global Recruiting and she reached out to schedule an interview. We met at a coffee shop near Pegasystems for about 30-45 minutes and had a nice chat. After that, I was given an online personality test called the Predictive Index. It's an old assessment that has been around since 1955. It's a two-page test where on the first page you pick out personality traits that you think describe how others see you, and on the second page, you do the same but for how you see yourself.
- The recruiter advised me to complete the Predictive Index quickly, relying on my intuition, without overthinking it. So, upon receiving the test via email on a Friday afternoon, I promptly opened and finished it. I estimate it took me about 2 minutes to complete. This approach proved incorrect, as I apparently didn't perform well on it. While not a traditional 'flunk,' my responses were minimal; I selected a few traits on the first page, a few more on the second, and then submitted.
