First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at PeerStreet.
Director, Strategy
The process kicked off with a recruiter call covering standard questions and salary expectations, though the lack of a bonus was a disappointment. This was followed by an interview with the Brand Director, who asked well-structured questions across various areas. The final interview was with the Chief Product Officer. This session felt more like a quiz, using some confusing terminology related to two-sided markets in Real Estate, focusing entirely on industry knowledge and customer identification rather than skills or experience. The CPO used terms like "lender side" for investors and "originations side" for borrowers, which became clear after the interview. This role seems suited for quick thinkers rather than those who prefer deep analysis (ironic given the 'Marketing Analysis' title) and solution development, as there was limited time for thoughtful responses.
- Regarding the originations side, what is most important?
- On the lender side of the business, what methods would you use to identify customers?
Software Engineer
Had a phone screen and a take-home coding project. My schedule is packed, and the project instructions were ambiguous, allowing for either a quick 30-minute completion or several hours of work. Since I can't dedicate unpaid hours to projects, I opted for the most efficient approach to meet the project requirements while ensuring the code was clean and readable. The interviewer's response was extremely rude, stating, 'it’s very clear you’re not trying to impress.' I would not recommend interviewing with this company due to the time commitment expected for their project and their unprofessional demeanor.
- Could you build an API along with a client for it?
Product Designer
The entire process took about a month. It started with a phone screen, followed by a design challenge that I took seriously and dedicated 6.5 hours to. Strangely, I then had another call with their internal recruiter, which wasn't what I expected, as I thought a manager would reach out after my application. Finally, I had interviews scheduled with 5 team members, where I felt I did well and connected with most of them. A few days later, my recruiter informed me that PeerStreet had either closed the role and stopped interviews or changed their candidate requirements. It felt like a complete waste of my time.
- Are there any standard questions you usually ask?
Funding Coordinator
The interview process was quite lengthy, involving multiple individuals, but every interaction was highly professional. It began with an HR/recruiter screening, followed by a meeting with the funding manager. Subsequently, I interviewed with two current funding coordinators and an underwriter, and the process concluded with an interview with the head of underwriting.
- What are your 5-year career aspirations?
