I went through a few interviews that were pretty long. They were really serious about finding the right person.

I had a quick phone interview with an HR rep. Then I was invited for a group interview with the Hiring Manager and 6 other team members. About a week and a half later, I was asked to interview with the VP and have another discussion with the Hiring Manager. I thought I was doing well and would get an offer, but I didn't. The HR rep was really hard to reach and took days to respond. He also called at odd hours, like 7pm or on a Saturday, to schedule interviews. The panel interview was good, with thoughtful questions. The company seemed like a fun group of passionate people, which you could tell from visiting the office and meeting the staff.

The whole thing took about two months. I had two interviews that were actually lunch meetings with the whole team. After the second lunch, the executive director told me I was gonna get an offer. We talked about when I could start and I thought I had the job. Then a week later, I was called in for a "real" interview that lasted almost two hours. The exec director and all the team members interviewed me separately, asking over 40 questions in total. The team members focused on things like how I organize, work with others, and communicate. Two weeks after that, they told me I didn't get the job because of budget cuts. But then I found out they actually hired someone else and announced it on social media. I just wish they had been straight with me and not so misleading during the interview process and while I was waiting to hear back.
