Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pearson.
Content Specialist
I had a first phone chat with HR, and it went pretty well. Then, someone from the Philippines reached out to set up a work sample review. After waiting two weeks for my interview, I completed the work sample activity, which I felt went great. They said I'd hear back by the end of the next week about what's next. But I heard nothing. I contacted my HR person, and she said the person I worked with on the sample was on vacation and hadn't made a decision before leaving. I waited another two weeks, then contacted HR again. This time, I got a really vague answer that didn't say if I was still in the running or not. About six weeks later, I emailed the person from the work sample, but never got a reply. I was super bummed about the whole interview thing because they totally assured me in my first interview that Pearson really cared about candidates' time and tried to be super efficient and upfront. During my experience, I waited two to three weeks between interviews, and then got totally ghosted after my work sample. I finally got a formal rejection a few days ago (late December), even though my interviews were back in September. I bet a lot of applicants know this feeling. My time didn't feel valued at all. After trying to reach out to HR and the content team, I really would've liked some direct, specific feedback on what my background or interviews were lacking, but that didn't happen.
- Tell me about how you keep yourself organized.
Content Developer
Got the interview through a professor who had published through Pearson. Interview was a 40min phone interview followed by a 7day assignment where candidate is required to write up a sample physics problem in the style of the Pearson, "masteringPhysics" software while keeping in mind Pearsons "Mastery learning" approach.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What attracted you to the electronic publishing industry?
Content Developer
I applied and heard back about a week later. The hiring manager set up an interview with me, which included them, a senior content developer, and myself. It was pretty standard questions. Then I got to move to a second round where I interviewed with a different senior content developer, another manager, and a project manager. They hit me with basically the same questions, which was annoying. There wasn't much time left to ask them questions back because of how many questions they asked.
- What makes you want to work here?
- Describe a situation where you had to lead a group of adults who knew more about a subject than you did.
