The interview process started with a 3-hour Hackerrank challenge involving string manipulation and validation, which was not too difficult and done in JavaScript. This was followed by a 45-minute video interview with a director and senior engineer, where they discussed my interest in the role, my resume, and provided details about the position and Payscale. The final stage was a 5-6 hour on-site interview, consisting of 1-hour 1:1 sessions with various engineers, a project manager, and the engineering manager. Each on-site interview was unique, and there was ample time for questions about the role and company. The interviewers were all pleasant and engaged. I liked Payscale's office and people, but I accepted a more competitive offer.

Behavioral Technical Coding System Design

So, a recruiter hit me up on LinkedIn, and then I had a call with the hiring manager. It was mainly to chat about my background and for me to learn about the team. After that, there was a HackerRank challenge, which I had 3 hours to complete once I started it, and I could do it whenever. Then, the whole onsite loop happened, lasting about 6 hours including lunch. The people there were amazing and really professional, making sure I felt comfortable and respected, which is great because interview loops can be stressful. It was definitely one of the best interview experiences I've had. You should be ready for design questions, coding on a whiteboard, and behavioral questions – it's pretty intense but everyone was super nice!

Coding Behavioral

First, there was an online coding test with 3 questions that I had 2 hours to complete, and it was easy. Then, a recruiter called me for a 15-minute chat about standard HR stuff. They mentioned twice that my coding test results were great and that they'd let me know within a week about next steps. It's been 2 weeks, so I emailed for an update, but got no reply. Another week passed, and I emailed again. After that, I got a generic rejection email, and they never clarified what went wrong.
