Client Success Manager
The interview process was pretty standard and focused on client scenarios. The recruiting team was really nice and kept things casual but still professional. There were about 2-3 interviews, each lasting around 30-45 minutes.
- Tell me about a time you tried to salvage a client who was about to leave, but it didn't work out. What did you do, and what would you have done differently in hindsight?
Customer Success Manager
The interview process was quite strange and unprofessional. I was initially contacted for a phone interview and set a date. However, when the scheduled interview time arrived, I waited, but nobody called. Subsequently, there was no communication to reschedule or offer an apology. I attempted to reach out to the person I had initially arranged the interview with, but they did not respond.

Customer Success Manager
I first interviewed at PayScale for an account executive job in 2015, and it was a really bad experience. The phone screen went okay, but then they asked me to fly out to the west coast for the in-person interview, and I had to pay for my own travel. They told me if I came, I'd likely get an offer. That first interview was rough because nobody seemed engaged, and they were always on their phones, making me feel disrespected. Part of it involved shadowing sales reps who barely spoke to me or answered my questions about the job, and they seemed bored and were on Facebook. After I flew back, I didn't hear from them for three weeks, and then they said they decided to promote internally and weren't moving forward with me. Recently, I spoke with the recruiter again about an account executive role. She then suggested I'd be a better fit for customer success. The interviews with the team were better this time, but my potential manager was very impersonal, focusing on my lack of experience rather than anything else. Still, I felt the interview went well overall. The recruiter contacted me saying the team enjoyed our talks and they wanted to proceed. But then, a follow-up call with my potential manager, they changed their minds due to my inexperience and decided not to move forward. Both times at PayScale, I felt like they were stringing me along and weren't upfront. While the people and culture seem good, they mostly promote from within and aren't very open to outside candidates with new ideas.
