Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Payscale.
Account Executive
It was a pretty long process with several interviews. Started with a phone screen, then had two interviews with managers, and finally a meeting with the team. The interviewers were really nice. I think I didn't get an offer because I lacked experience, but the whole process could maybe be shorter.
- Can you share an instance where you faced and overcame a challenge?
Account Executive
It was a pretty standard process: first, a phone screening with the internal recruiter, then a follow-up call with a manager. After that, there was an in-person interview that lasted about 4 hours and involved meeting with 4 different managers. This was followed by a final demo interview with my potential manager, and then a screening with the SVP. Finally, they extended a job offer. Honestly, it felt a bit long, but it was a good experience overall. If you're going for a sales role, make sure you know your numbers and have stats to back them up. The company culture is great, though it can be a bit like a frat house, so take that with a grain of salt. If you're looking for a professional sales environment, you might not find it here with all the Xbox, Cheetos, and beer around. It's fun, but it felt more like a gig than a career move to me.
- How do you handle a customer who has gone silent?
Account Executive
It was a really good experience. I applied online and got an email back pretty quickly. We scheduled a first phone chat where we both kept it real and comfortable. I learned a lot about the company and the role, and I got to pitch myself too. We planned to talk more the next week, but things got pushed back two weeks because I had a tight window to interview in Seattle and the interviewers were busy. By then, I'd already accepted another job offer. But, the PayScale team was awesome, and I'd recommend them to anyone based on my experience. They communicated well, were open about the process, and everyone was friendly.
- Can you tell me what you know about our company?
- What are your thoughts on this specific role?
- Could you walk me through your background?
