Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Paycom.
Payroll Specialist
The hiring process began with an online application and a referral from a family friend. This was followed by a phone screening and two in-person interviews. Despite positive feedback during the second interview regarding my qualifications and skills, and assurances that I was a valuable candidate, I ultimately received a rejection. The recruiter was unresponsive to my follow-up calls and emails, and the final rejection came via an automated email. Information from my friend within the company suggested the rejection was due to my perceived quietness.
- How do you feel about the possibility of being overqualified for this role?
Payroll Specialist
I first had a phone call with the recruiting team. Then, I came in for a skills and personality test, and a 1:1 with a supervisor. The questions were really good and made me think. After that, I had a second interview with the department manager. They clearly explained my expected duties in each interview and fully answered all my questions. A few days later, I got the job offer and accepted it.
- Could you detail your payroll experience?
- Describe a time you made an error at work and how you resolved it.
Accountant
I spoke with the Controller and another accountant who I would be working with. They asked me straightforward questions about my experience and how my skills could benefit the company.
- Can you tell me about a time you faced a problem, how you resolved it, and what steps you took?
- What's your approach to handling busy months with tight deadlines?
