First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Paycom.
Account Executive
First, I had a screen call with the recruiter. It was an easy process where they talked about how great the compensation is. My second interview was at the New Orleans office. The interviewer was unprofessional and unprepared, seeming to lack interview experience and work experience. They couldn't answer my questions. It was misleading to offer contact info over chat, say they were impressed with my resume, and then not move forward.

The interview process started with meeting the hiring manager and then the sales VP, which was fine. However, the final step was highly questionable and unethical. They required me to cold call actual prospects, pretending to work for Paycom (even though I wasn't hired yet), and to book 3 meetings to even have a chance at an offer. These accounts wouldn't be mine, and booking meetings didn't guarantee a job or any compensation for my time or the leads generated. I later learned it's illegal to make potential employees do this kind of work without pay under U.S. federal labor law, specifically the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), which requires compensation for productive work. The hiring manager contacted me after I left and, when I explained my concerns about the unethical nature of the task, he said they've been doing it for 20 years and didn't understand my point. The representative I was working with also said, 'If you have to offer them a $1000 gift in order for them to meet with us, I don't care, just do it.' To make matters worse, the hiring manager had another candidate interviewing at the same time I was supposed to be doing these calls, which felt disrespectful. I plan to report this to the Better Business Bureau. While I understand the compensation is attractive, especially for someone young, I cannot support this practice, and companies like this erode trust in vendors.

Account Executive
The interview process includes about four rounds, which is pretty standard for sales roles. It starts with a phone screen with a recruiter, followed by an in-person interview, a Teams video call, and a final in-person shadow day. During the shadow day, you meet the team, make dials, and participate in a roleplay where you sell to a C-Level executive. I really appreciated getting a clear look at what the role involves before committing.
- Can you tell me about the two biggest challenges you've overcome?
