Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Paychex.
Sales Manager
So, I went through two processes. First, a recruiter reached out and did a standard screen. She thought I'd be a good fit and said she'd schedule me with the hiring manager. After two weeks of silence, I followed up. Then, about a month later, I reached out again to the recruiter, saying I was still keen. She then set me up with a different hiring manager. I had three interviews with her over two weeks. She mentioned she was hiring for one role, possibly two. Things seemed really positive, and she even gave me tips for interviewing with her boss. Four more weeks went by with no news. Finally, I got a message saying they were strategizing and needed a few days. That turned into another two weeks. It really says a lot about their culture – candidates should be treated better.

Sales Manager
Great interview experience! The recruiter was well-prepared and the interviewer was very engaging. Overall, the process was fantastic, and I'm hopeful about moving forward to the next steps.

Sales Manager
The interview process starts with a recruiter screening call, then an interview with the hiring manager, followed by an interview with another Division manager, and finally a panel interview. The whole thing took more than 8 weeks from when I first talked to the recruiter until I pulled out. I was left hanging for 5 weeks after the second interview, waiting for the panel interview to be scheduled, with all sorts of excuses. The final straw was when the hiring manager asked if the next Thursday or Friday would work for the panel. I never heard back, and those days went by. I sent an email withdrawing my candidacy on Monday evening and finally got a response at 9:30 that night saying, “Thank you for your email. Best of luck in your remaining efforts.” All this time, I had to follow up 2-3 times between each contact to get any kind of vague response and a partial apology. This manager clearly doesn't care about people, their time, or professionalism, which is ironic because he mentioned learning from it during our interview.
- Tell me about your passion for developing people.
- What are your requirements from me and the company to consider this a place you want to work?
- Can you share an example of a leadership mistake you've learned from previously?
