Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Paychex.
Sales Associate
I had a phone interview where the recruiter's goal was to screen me and decide if I should move on. She started by saying 'here's the deal,' and then laid out the good and bad parts of the job. It's a cold-calling role, and she mentioned that success means making a lot of calls to generate leads. Then she asked about my interest in entry-level positions. I also had another phone interview where they asked basic questions to see if I was a good fit for the next stage.
- Did you have any experience in a call center environment or similar work?
Sales Associate
It was a few rounds. First I talked to the recruiter, then the sales manager, and then the regional manager. It was a pretty standard process. They asked a lot about my background, going all the way back to high school. After I spoke with the regional manager, they made an offer.
- How do you ask for the close?
Sales Associate
I had an initial phone call, then a FaceTime interview, followed by a peer interview. After that, there was another phone call, and then I got an email rejection. The whole thing took about 2-3 weeks. It felt like a lot of steps for nothing. The peer interview involved shadowing a sales rep on a call and then just chatting about personal stuff and activities. The person interviewing me made it seem like I was getting the job, which was weird (they were a good salesperson, I guess). I think it would have been a good place to work if I had gotten the job. All in all, it wasn't a terrible interview process.
- Can you tell me about your past sales experience?
