Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.
Summer Associate
The initial virtual screening was about 20 minutes long, and it was a pretty relaxed and friendly chat. I spoke with a recruiting manager and a partner. They asked standard BigLaw interview questions. We just talked, and it was easy to share my experiences. Overall, it was a good interview.
- What motivated you to study law?
Summer Associate
The interview process was structured and professional. It began with an initial screening, followed by a call back video interview. The questions were a mix of behavioral and role-specific scenarios, and the interviewers were courteous and well-prepared. The entire process took about two weeks, and I was kept informed throughout.
- Tell me about a time you had to handle a challenging situation with a team member.
Summer Associate
I bypassed the initial screener and went straight to a callback interview which lasted about 2 hours. It was split into four 20-30 minute segments. I had conversations with two associates and two partners, all conducted via video. The interviews were quite laid-back, without any tricky or unexpected questions. My final chat with a partner was mostly me posing questions to them. It was a positive experience talking to everyone, and the interview wasn't overly challenging as long as you have a clear idea of your interests or can articulate your thought process and your reasons for wanting to join the firm.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What draws you to our firm?
- Which practice area are you considering?
