This interview process felt super long to me, going on for almost two months from the first contact to the offer. It turns out that's pretty standard though. I had eight interviews with the whole team I'd be joining, and they were all genuinely enjoyable. Even though the length was a bit stressful, the process itself was great. I felt valued and heard the whole time.

I had an initial call with a recruiter, and after that went well, I got an interview with the hiring manager. Things seemed to go great with the hiring manager, and she mentioned another interview with her and some of the team. I sent a thank you note right away and said I was excited to meet them. Then, nothing. About a week later, I followed up with the recruiter about where things stood, but still no response. It's been almost two weeks now, and I'm pretty sure I've been ghosted. What's most annoying is that it feels like a complete waste of my time. Even just a quick note to say they weren't interested would've been nice. This whole thing feels unprofessional and leaves a bad impression.

So, first I had a screening interview with someone who works with the hiring manager. She was super nice and knew her stuff, and I felt like it went pretty well. After that, she told me I'd be doing a "Model Test." I was keen to show off, even though I think asking candidates to do work for free as part of the hiring process isn't great, but whatever, I didn't mind. The model test was supposed to be 1 hour, and it involved answering an NPV prompt for a made-up company to decide if it was worth investing. The hour was enough to answer the prompt, but not really enough time to build a model that could handle follow-up questions, which they said was what they were actually looking for. So I did the prompt, and yeah, there were definitely things I'd change, but I figured I'd hear back either way. But nope, radio silence. I tried contacting the recruiter who initially reached out on LinkedIn, still nothing. Then I emailed the HR person who sent me the test, thanking them and asking for feedback. Again, nothing. No one bothered to reply, not even with a rejection email, which honestly, I wouldn't have even minded. But after spending hours interviewing and doing their test, you'd think they'd at least send a courtesy email. It was completely unprofessional.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • What are your usual questions about cultural fit?
  • The model test was a long but pretty simple NPV calculation. Don't bother building a real model, it's a waste of time; just answer the prompt directly.

The interview process was unorganized and felt unwelcoming. The recruiter rescheduled our initial call last minute, and the hiring manager was late for our WebEx interview. I was then invited onsite to interview with four team members. Upon arrival, there was no one at the front desk, but I signed myself in. A person from the workplace team arrived a few minutes later, stating they were expecting me but didn't know my meeting room, which seemed odd given the TA team provided me with the details. My final onsite interview was conducted via WebEx, and afterward, I was left in the conference room unsure of how to proceed, as no one walked me out, which is usually a best practice. I tried calling the recruiter and coordinator but received no answer. After about 10-15 minutes, I let myself out.
