Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pathways to Housing DC.
Grants Manager
I met with one of the organization's leaders. We talked about my background and how I could fit in. It was a really relaxed and friendly interview. The organization's work is incredible. I was actually looking for more major gifts experience, so we decided to go our separate ways, but I would definitely consider interviewing with them again.
- Can you tell me about your experience?
- What motivates you to seek employment in the nonprofit sector?
Outreach Specialist
The interview process started with a phone call. After that, I had a face-to-face interview over Zoom with the manager and supervisor. The process was detailed and organized. It felt down to earth and gave me a clear understanding of the company's values and vision.
- What's your approach to handling challenging situations?
Homeless Outreach Specialist
I was contacted three times for two different positions about three months ago. I was quickly asked for a second interview to shadow. The initial contact person said they'd be in touch soon, but I never heard back. Then, a random person called, saying my resume was passed along and they wanted to offer me a different position. They said they needed to talk to management before sending an offer letter. After two more weeks, I still didn't hear back. I got a sloppy email from the E.D. apologizing for the wait and saying they'd keep my resume. Again, I got a call for another interview, and after asking for a decision timeline, I haven't heard anything in weeks. This company really needs to improve its hiring practices and be more respectful of applicants' time and professional in all communications.
- How would you manage an angry business owner and client priorities?
Clinical Director
I had a Zoom interview that lasted about an hour. I spoke with my direct supervisor and the Chief Medical Officer. I got the job offer the next day.
- What is your understanding of the Housing First Model?
