It wasn't too difficult to secure an interview. The interview itself was quite direct, with interviewers sticking to a pre-made list of questions. I didn't receive an offer, but I suspect we were not aligned on expectations; I was seeking an employer willing to train me, while they preferred a candidate with more experience who wouldn't require training. Some questions, like 'what do you do next?', caught me by surprise because I hadn't anticipated the role being so independent and solitary, where you might lack support or necessary resources at times.

So the interview process was pretty simple. A direct placement agency submitted me for the role. First, I had a 30-45 minute phone screen with the hiring manager. Then, the agency scheduled me for an on-site interview. At the company, I met with the Director and another Recruiter. That interview was about 1.5 to 2 hours long.

The hiring process kicked off with the standard recruiter phone call, followed by a roughly hour-long telephone chat with the hiring manager that seemed to go well. After that, I was invited for an in-person interview, but I had to chase down the recruiter via email and calls to even get that scheduled. The in-person interview was set for early morning. It involved the hiring manager first, and then later a manager and an HR ops person. I was there 20-30 minutes early, but by 9 am, the hiring manager hadn't shown up. I was about to ask to reschedule and leave. She finally showed up 20 minutes late, so the interview started at least 30 minutes behind schedule, which was a bad sign and didn't create a good impression, even with her apology. The interview itself was pretty standard. The second meeting with the HR manager and HR ops person felt more like a chat than a formal interview. Oddly, they shared some information I probably shouldn't have known, but I didn't think too much of it at the time. Then came a week of silence. My emails and calls to the recruiter went unanswered. I also emailed the hiring manager with no reply. A few days later, I got an email saying they had offered the position to someone else. I definitely wouldn't suggest applying to this company.

The whole process took over two months, which feels like a long time, but I've heard that's pretty standard these days. First, I had a chat with my future boss and someone else from the marketing team. Then, I did a panel interview with some of the folks I'd be working with. After that, I had a phone call with an external consultant. The very last interview was back with my future boss, and this time another senior manager joined too.
