& Process

First, you gotta apply with the department that has the opening and chat with the hiring manager there. The interview is usually just with the person who'll be your boss, and they'll ask about your interests, why you want the job, and your qualifications. Then, they might say they'll get back to you in a few weeks, or you might even get hired right then. After that, you'll go get your digital fingerprints taken, then head to HR for paperwork, and the dean of the department needs to sign off on your form for approval.

This was for a special project, so the interview was super simple. They told me about the job, that it'd be for 2-3 months, and asked if I was okay with the duties and pay, and then basically offered me the role. Other College Assistants got offers over the phone after HR looked at their resumes. My role is a bit different, but we do mostly the same project. I had a face-to-face interview after a quick phone chat. I applied in August, but they didn't reach out until late Nov or early Dec. The pay wasn't something we could negotiate.

The interview email went to spam, which has happened before with other higher education institutions. It was a Zoom interview with department members and the area Dean. The leadership wasn't very warm and welcoming. The questions were pretty straightforward. I had to give a lesson demonstration and got to ask questions at the end.

The hiring process started with a paper application where I had to provide self-identification info and a copy of my academic transcript. It was mostly about the number of math courses I took and my grades in them. The requirements weren't very strict; I don't think Calculus was even necessary.
