First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Partners of the Americas.
Program Officer
The process was long, and I wasn't very clear on the next steps. I had to do a lot of follow-up with the hiring manager to get answers. It's important to mention that a manager handled the process directly, not HR.
- Can you tell me about your previous experience in the technical area related to this program portfolio?
Program Officer
The first interview was fine. I was then asked to email more information, including salary expectations. I did not think this was ideal, but I did my research and submitted an appropriate range expectation. I then received an email inviting me to interview with another group of people. Because of this, I assumed that my salary expectations were reasonable and were able to be accommodated if I got the job. However, when I went to my second interview, they asked what my salary expectations were. After I expressed my confusion as to why I received a second interview after already disclosing my expectations, they told me that they had no communication with the first interviewers (hard to believe). I was thrown off and felt that I had been deceived. It was a waste of my time. The second group of interviewers also never told me their roles at the company or how their roles would collaborate with the program officer. For all I know, they had no connection to working with the program officer. The questions were all over the place and there was no time for me to ask any questions. They also did not invite me to ask any questions. The second interview is a time for the applicant to be interviewing the organization as well, and I knew that this was not a place I wanted to work due to the disorganization and lack of communication.
- What is your desired salary range?
Intern
The interview process was quite informal and easy. They contacted me via email and we scheduled an interview within a week. The interview was casual and informative. They explained what their unit does, the role of an intern, and then asked questions. They mainly wanted to see that my experiences, interests, and goals were aligned with the position.
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
Vice President
The interview process felt unstructured. HR didn't follow up as promised during the initial stages. It was a bit misleading overall. The job description provided initially didn't match the actual role. There wasn't clear communication about what they were looking for in terms of needs and profiles. It lacked professionalism.
- The questions asked were ambiguous and lacked clarity.
