Fullstack Software Engineer
So first I submitted my application online. Then there was an online assessment on Coderbyte. After that, I had a panel interview with three people. It was pretty chill, we started with talking about general software engineering stuff, then moved to a systems design problem on the whiteboard, and finished up with some questions about AWS.
- Tell me about AWS services and your experience with System Design.
- Can you walk me through a System Design problem?
Software Engineer
First up is a technical assessment. It's a mix of about 15 multiple-choice questions on distributed systems, followed by a coding challenge. The multiple-choice part checks how well you know distributed systems theory, hitting the important stuff for senior engineers. The coding part is about parsing a log file, so it tests how you handle data, work with files, and write clean code. If you do well on that, you'll have a technical interview. This one digs into system architecture design and your background. They'll ask about your work history, especially with distributed systems, scaling, and good engineering habits. Then, you'll dive into designing a distributed system yourself, making it scalable and reliable. They might ask about data distribution, fault tolerance, load balancing, and latency. It's all about showing how you think strategically and solve problems to see if you fit the technical needs here.
- Can you provide a deep dive into designing a distributed system?
Software Engineer
The interview had one stage for a technical assessment, followed by a video call with the dev team and manager. I got a call about a week later from a contact in the US saying I was a top candidate and they'd update me in 2 days. It took almost 20 days for me to follow up for an update. Within hours, they told me I was rejected, but without any feedback, which I found disrespectful. The company seems to have potential, but the HR department is disorganized and lacks communication. I wouldn't recommend them.
- Tell me about your competencies and any technical aspects of your previous experience and projects.
